Ta Muen Thom, an
importing staging post
on the road to Phimai
from as early as the
eleventh century,
includes two sandstone
towers,one of which was
blown up by the
occupying Khmer Rouge
in the 1980s. During the
same period all the
removable statues were
smuggled to Thailand,
still a transit center for
the many works of art
that are regularly stolen
from Khmer
archaeological sites.
